Spring not only brings flowers, but the beginning of the quilt show season. The first of the local quilt shows will be The Airing of the Quilts at the Milwaukie Center March 20-21, 2015. http://milwaukiecenterquiltshow.org This is a small quilt show, but you will find some amazing work by local quilt artists. The romantic quilt below is one I entered in a previous show. The center of this quilt has five identical blocks that are needle-turned applique. Around the heart is the verse: A feast of flowers here behold, a thing of joy to see, but ah, to me 'tis sweeter far, to feast my eyes on thee.
Have you ever been on a Shop Hop? Oregon quilt stores have several organized shop hops during the year. Scrappy Valley Quilt Guild, joined in the fun many times. We bunched together to enjoy a full day of nothing but shopping, or "hopping" at multiple quilt stores. Well, we did take a quick thirty minutes lunch! We were looking for new ideas and fabric that "spoke to us." It was on one of those shop hops, that we found a pattern we all loved. The next year each member made this quilt, in our own favorite colors, of course. This picture was taken when I entered mine in the Milwaukie Center show Airing of the Quilts. |
Lynette Jensen, of Thimbleberries designed this pattern called Thimbleberries Village in the Big Book of Quilt Blocks. This quilt was one of the first quilts Scrappy Valley Quilters did as a group. Lynette designed the patterns to be a "block of the month" which means, at the end of the year, new skills were learned, blocks were joined together and everyone had their own quilt. This is my quilt, hanging in another quilt show.
